The Play Day and Fly-In were co-sponsored by the Bay Area Dreamworkers
Group (BADG) and Fly-By-Night Club
(FBNC). An article in the July/August issue of the Jungian magazine
Common Boundary also gave notice of the event.
Play Day
BADG hosted several Play Day meetings during the early '90s and the
Play Day returned for an encore in 1998. At a Play Day, events feature
dreamplay, a pot luck and barbecue, swimming in a pool and floating in
a spa. Some participants incubate a dream ahead of time to test their precognitive
skills. They bring these dreams to share and compare with the day as it
unfolds before their very eyes.
In the past, dreamers had dreamt up portions of the menu, the toys in
the water, the water events and descriptions of the backyard, house and
people. Once a dreamer dreamt up some dreamplay from the previous year,
although the photograph was available for viewing in the current year.
She dreamt about a dream mask made out of white plaster tape and using
the dreamer's face as the mold. (The mask eventually became part of a dream
character costume).
July 25th was a hot, lazy afternoon in California. Most guests spent
time in and around the pool, swimming, talking and eating, although a few
wandered upstairs to see the sights on the 2nd floor landing (or to change
clothes for swimming).
Fly-In
Some dreamers are "unseen" guests from afar. These are people
at a distance who have been invited to Play Day, but can't come in the
waking state. So they come in the dream. Telepathy and clairvoyance are
their prime dreaming skills, although precognition and retrocognition can
play a part. They incubate a dream during the week of the Play Day and
sent it in to compare with the waking state event.
Very often their dreams don't respond to the daytime events, but do
resonate with other dreams. It's as if the dreaming selves have a party
in the dream state. Some of the in-dream party might indeed look like the
physical experience, but the dreaming selves are not constrained by the
rules of physical reality. Not only can they slip and slide in time, they
can look and act differently than their waking counterparts.
Physical reality is the Play Day. Dreaming reality is the Fly-In. In
the waking state we can stroll, lounge, munch, float and swim. But in the
dream state we fly. With this in mind, the July 25th date was chosen as
the closest weekend to the anniversary of the moon landing.
To encourage our dreaming selves to participate in the Fly-In, I used
a picture target called "The Flying Grotto" put together by Ruth
and myself. More folks dreamt in honor of the activities of the night than
the events of the day.
Fly-In Report By Linda Lane
Magallón
As Rita perceived, pictures were taken of the Play Day (by Jill, of
course), there was coffee served, a bearded man attended and the swimming
pool does have a diving board. One guest did bring a large aluminum cooking
pot to cook pasta, but she prepared spaghetti with tomato sauce, not Naoko's
macaroni and white sauce.
Judythe's "Aunt Ana" was reflected in Diane's dream in which
she asked, "What's your Anadama?" and a woman replied, "Oh,
I don't know, I think that's my aunts." In fact, FBNC member Ana (Marie)
was at the Play Day party. Judythe's dream said that she introduced her
Aunt Ana to a movie star "by phone." Actually, I had introduced
Ana Marie to Tony by sending one e-mail to both. (As in, "Ana meet
Tony; Tony meet Ana Marie.") Judythe's dream also said that they now
knew each other but had "not yet met; " in reality they had talked
about but hadn't yet set a date for co-dreaming.
Tony dreamt "assaulted by some gang members. A shooting occurs.
I escaped harm." This parallels Diane's gunrunners who held "tommy
guns to our stomachs" but didn't do any damage. No problem. "Shooting"
is a long-time dream symbol for us dreamers when we try to "hit"
a dream telepathy target. Both Mary and Ruth dreamt of buying things in
a book store where people were complaining or upset. I don't know where
that came from.
On the brighter side, Ruth and Jody had rich descriptions of their gold
jewelry. I suspect they were responding to Mary's telepathic influence.
And perhaps because Cynnie sang the Fly-By-Night
Club Anthem prior to sleep, Jill, Judythe and Ruth heard music.
Jody was awaiting it.
Skimpy Clothes Or None At All
Well, at first I was going to cast an eagle eye in the direction of
Janice. After all, she is the author of "Sex, Symbols and Dreams"!
You see, Jim dreamt of a bikini-clad woman and Dorothy of "tight spandex
trunks." This, even though Dorothy was at the Play Day and knows that
all the swimmers were in conservative bathing attire. But during the heat
of summer I suspect that I wasn't the only dreamer to go to bed sans clothing.
Two dreamers went nude in their dreams. However, one of them was also participating
in another dream experiment in which the facilitator was "sending"
out an explicit sexual image. In the dream state, some targets get more
attention than others!
Peanuts and Clowns
Puns there were a'plenty. Robert dreamt that a man held up something
that said "Planters Nut." Apparently its purpose was to capture
a dream! Ruth was offered some peanut butter in her dream. Naoko mentioned
the Peanuts characters she later saw in the waking state painted on the
body of a bus. And speaking of body painting...
I contributed a dream from before the target date during which I was
co-dreaming with Ed. That night I had made up my face before sleeping to
better serve as a target. I drew light blue shadow above my left eye, burgundy
shadow above my right eye and a line of green shadow running the entire
way down my forehead, nose, upper lip and chin. Afterwards, I made faces
at myself in the mirror.
Mary dreamt, "...friends of the blonde, wounded man began painting
my face. They put dots near my eyes and on my forehead and curved lines
over my nose and cheeks." She also received "a very strong image
of a bold yellow circular image of a smiley face." Ed dreamt of looking
at himself in a fun house mirror, and seeing that "as I smile, so
does my reflection." Mary dreamt, "I saw a very short haired
blond man drawing on a sheet of paper. He created a gap toothed face drawing.
The face had wide, full lips--almost like a clown's face." Ed dreamt
of himself as a short jolly fat blonde man, whereas he's actually dark-haired
and tall in waking life.
I wonder how many others were appearing in costume or disguise? For
example, Ruth dreamt of 7 people, but Noako dreamt of 7 or 8 tall trees.
Do we look sometimes look like trees (Rita) or fence posts (Mary)?
On Top Of The "Third Story" House
Naoko dreamt of "three tiers," Janice of a "3-tiered
terraced area" and Cynnie of 3-story houses, as did Ruth (with her
"subbasement") and Diane (with a roof atop her 2-story apartment.)
When the depth of the pool is included, my 2-story house is really 3 levels.
Cynnie, er...Cynthia dreamt, "I am looking out the window, which
has a crack in the top sash, just like the window on our third floor...the
roof is like a Mansard roof that goes to the street and these people are
able to climb up." On Play Day, folks were invited to go up the stairs
to see the clairvoyant dreams on the 2nd floor landing. On one side of
the landing, I posted a description of my sister's dream. The text directed
folks to compare the dream with both a stained glass window and the space
below it, through which one can see the buildings and street below (you
have to look down the stairs to see the window). My sister's birth name
is also...Cynthia.
Cynnie's dream continued, "I see people (who) are dressed...in
woolen garments/blankets...some have babies with them." I compared
her dream with Janice's dream, "I am walking along the top of a 3-tiered
terraced area...carrying a large soft bundle 3 feet by 4 feet by 1 1/2
feet, it is pretty big but not heavy. It is wrapped in turquoise paper
with an over-all pattern of brightly colored geometric figures." Both
women's dreams were talking about what's hanging on the opposite side of
the landing. It's The Flying Carpet.
The Carpet's landscape has blue sky and is sewn with brightly colored
figures. I folded the material into about the dimensions that Janice mentions
when I brought it to the '96 ASD conference. The Flying Carpet was originally
the front of a 2-piece costume that Jill and I wore to the '92 ASD conference
costume ball. So, of course Jill dreamt that she is carrying not one but
two large lightweight bundles. And to top it all off, Jody reports on a
woman carrying colorfully wrapped presents in her third dream.
But did we fly? Sure, and maybe with a new version of the Flying Carpet.
Diminutive Naoko dreamt "I was floating in a building wearing a bullet-shaped
balloon on my back. I flew outside." Jody dreamt of seeing "a
small boy come flying out on a little inflated vehicle. Looks like a jet
ski, but it is rubber and inflated with a small motor to power it."
Ruth flew in her dream. So did Ed and I.
Co-Dreaming In The Grotto
As Ed's dream indicated, there was indeed a grotto at the entrance to
the Turtle Bay Hilton Hotel (where Robert stayed) in Hawaii at the '98
ASD conference, although not as aquatic as the one in the target picture.
Jill dreamt of "Turtle" in a grotto-like landscape. A few days
beforehand, Ed had sent me a map drawing by way of Richard, who converted
it from a "jpeg" to a "gif" file. Jill dreamt of an
elfin creature named "Gif."
Jody dreamt she was trying to remember a man's name and said, "I
am glitching out and apologize saying "help me." I dreamt of
asking, "Can you help me, please?" because I was trying to locate
Ed. I also "glitched out" for a short while when I tried to remember
my code words.
Ed and I both managed to "get lucid" on our dream date and
the dreams show remarkable resonance (we were dreaming about an hour apart).
The strongest "hit" is the similarity between the word "Ice"
that Ed heard me say and the name "I" that I heard from the tall
stranger (Ed is tall). I followed up that reply with the sarcastic, "Okay
"I," do you know where Ed IS?" I + IS = ICE.
Among our shared elements, is the box that Ed saw contained medicinal
herbs and dried flowers and the box next to the dried flowers in my dream.
Jill picked up this interaction, too, when she mentions her concern that
"Turtle" is eating dried grassy weeds.
All Hale The Discarnate Connection
Finally, Jill ends our report on a poignant note. She wrote: "When
I finish telling the dream (to my daughter), I hear my brother's voice
in my mind telling me that...he has given me this dream...My brother Lon
David died in 1979 (I believe that he re-incarnated during the time of
the Hale-Bopp comet.)"
Jo dreamt, "a conversation with no remembered visual - of two people
getting ready to reincarnate, having come back near the earth". Jody
dreamt that a doctor wants her to page her son David. The dream ends with
her ready to do what he asks and make the contact.
And Diane dreamt: "It's Mike (my brother) and he's calling me to
come home." (Diane's brother is also deceased.) Diane also dreamt
of a "Michael Haelly." And, to underscore the connection, she
goes and misspells his first name as "MicHALE."
Follow-Up: Past Echoes In The Present
The phrase "Inner Fat" in Ed's dream struck a familiar chord,
so I went back to a Nexus goal/telepathy experiment of June of 1989, in
which Rita and Jill had participated. Their 1989 dreams resonated so closely
with the current Play Day/Fly-In set, that they gave me the chills. Here's
a quick list of symbols from 1989 that correspond with the 1998 dreams.
Jill's old symbols: amphitheater concert (Jody); fat (Ed); inflated
rings (Naoko).
Rita's old symbols: carrying objects in a parking lot, the color green
and consciousness coming outside its container (Jill); the car moving people
along and cocoons (Ruth); the gold/orange box (Ed); the gun that doesn't
do damage (Tony and Diane); the power objects (Jody); the frog, the bare
body and erasing an image (Mary). And the underwater-and-forest painting!
Specifically, in June 1989 Rita had dreamt "...Mary, a lovely blond
woman (the current Mary is blonde)...is with a group of people who are
painting in watercolor underwater. One was an oriental design with birds,
trees and blossoms, an outline which the painters were filling in with
the proper colors. I use some forest green paint to make some strokes which
I later find I want to remove and can very easily because of the medium."
Compare this with the Flying Grotto picture (below), which wasn't created
until 9 years later!
I'm beginning to suspect that we're all dreaming the same big dream,
adding to it as time goes along, just as if we were constructing a stage
set and filing in the scenery, props and plot. (Not to mention erasing
what we decide we no longer want.) The idea that we all cooperatively help
build and rebuild the dream world is not a new one, but our version seems
more creative, magical and nature-oriented than, say, the Jane Roberts/Seth
"Inner City."
